IExpE Specialist Examination No 4
Offshore Oil Operations

In the two papers candidates will be examined in the theory and use of explosives in the Offshore Oil Industry.

Paper 1:

  • Safety Procedures Offshore (Radio Silence/Storage etc.)
  • Electric Line Explosive Operations (Pipe Cutting, Perforating, Plug Setting etc. Ohms etc.)
  • Subsea Explosives (Wellhead Removal, Coles Law etc.)
  • Shaped Charges (Perforators, Jet Cutters, Junk Shots etc.)
  • Detonating Systems (e.g. EBW, Radio Safe Systems, Pressure Actuated etc.)
  • Explosive Types (e.g. RDX/PYX, Temperature rating, Classification etc.)

Paper 2:

A two hour paper requiring detailed knowledge of the above and additional offshore operations.
