Demolition

In the two papers candidates will be examined in the use of explosives for the fragmentation or felling of man-made structures.

Paper 1:

  • The Site Survey
  • Contract of Quotation Specifications and Responsibilities
  • Drafting of Blasting Plans (Method Statements)
  • Pre-Weakening, Recognition of Points of Structural Failure and the Identifying or Forming of Pivot (Hinge) Points
  • The Use of Both Re-Usable and Sacrificial Blast Screening, and Methods of Protecting Adjacent Utilities and Structures
  • The Use of Lay-On Charges Including Shaped Charges their Construction and Function
  • The Selection of Type and Size of Explosive Charges, their Location and Initiation
  • Codes of Practice, Legislation and Regulations Specific to Demolition
  • Safety in the Workplace and Safety of the Public
  • Liaison with Interested Parties and the Drafting of a 'Timetable of Responsibilities' Detailing Security and Safety Measures

Paper 2:

A two-hour paper of questions in essay form, requiring the candidate to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and experience of the use of explosives in demolition.
